Spindle Heart Arrow
I really hate to waste so I always try to use all my materials on had. I had a broken chair to start with and I took it all apart and it had really nice old spindle's that were aged and worn, giving it some good charm! With Valentines right around the corner I wanted to make some hearts so I thought these would be perfect. See below how I made these heart arrows great for Valentines day but also year around.. Lets Get started
Time: 20 Minutes Cost: $1 Difficulty: Easy
From A Chair To This Valentine Beauty! I took the chair apart making sure not to damage the spindles. Not hard a few screws and a few twist. The fist one was broken so not much work.
next I cut the heart and chevron out of wood using a jigsaw with my paper templates I made. Just use your template and trace on the wood. I had a scrap of 2x8 which worked perfectly. You will need a thick for this project I wouldn't suggest anything under a 2x8.
I then got my drill out and a bit that was as thick as the spindle and made a hole in each end and twisted the spindle in the whole. It was tight but I did glue and use a nail. Just a helpful tip so you don't break the heart and chevron pre-drill with a small bit and then go to a large one.
I used all the spindles on the back and on the arms which is the short one in the back :). I even used the thick legs. No waste here making my $7 chair a great deal.
All my pieces ready to assemble I learned after doing many to paint them first then assemble them. This one I painted white and sanded the edges just to give it a shabby old feel.
I loved how they turn out with the old chair and new chair these have been fun. I made a ton of them and I sold a ton. If you would like to buy one you can find them in my shop at Gilbert Marketplace on Facebook. But don't be afraid to try them its an easy project. I love DYI and using materials we have around that would normally go in the trash.
