Easy Bottle Painting Technique
Well Valentine's Day is almost here and everyone is decorating with beautiful hearts! Me too!!
I try to add something new every year and I have wanted to do something with this heart bottle for years now! So finally I did something and it turned out so freakin' awesome looking!!
Time: 1 Days Cost: $0 Difficulty: Easy
I found this heavy glass iridescent carafe top in a thrift store a few years back. It was so pretty, I thought maybe it would fit one of the many bottles I had at home. It was cheap, under 2 bucks, so I bought it. I was so hoping it would fit this heart shaped bottle but it didn't !
Well I decided to mimic the color (inside the heart bottle) and make another top for it!
This is what I did...
This was a clear bottle when I started this project.
I first mixed an opaque white enamel paint with mod podge. Poured that inside the bottle and turned the bottle upside down to let the mix drain back down towards the top. I also tilted the bottle around to get the mix pretty much all over the inside. Because of the shape of the bottle I used a chopstick to splatter the different colored mixes where I wanted them as you can see in the picture above.
I used about 2 tablespoons (a little more, a little less) of mod podge for each color except the pink paint I used 4 tablespoons. Mixing the paint in was more of a judgement call for the color and look I was trying to achieve. I would start with a few drop and add until I got the color I wanted. I also added a few drops of pearl to the pink.
I then took my hairdryer and heated up the mix inside the bottle. I started on the hottest temperature and highest blowing settings aimed it right in the bottle. The mix inside starts to melt and slide together! I used a hot pad to hold the bottle because it will get hot! I also need to put it upside down to drain into something like tin foil and a muffin pan worked great! I added more color in certain areas and would let it cool off then do it again until I got the look I wanted! This had to air dry for a day.
These are the colors I used for the bottle; wild iris, wild berry, lavender, cotton candy (glitter burst) acrylics and opaque white, red and pearl.
Next...
Well, while I was waiting for the bottle to dry I made another top for it. I used a wood finial. I had to sand out some of the inside to fit the cork.
I painted it with some of the colors I used for the bottle. Kind of plain looking, need to add something ... sparkly and shiny like the bottle!
