Valentines Day Challenge

There were not any Valentines Day decorations in our home except for a door hanger. Time to get to work!

I decided to make a table centerpiece and jumped into action mode. Step one was to use the 2"x4" in the garage.

Step 2 was to use globes, which I found at Restore (Habitat for Humanity). I love that store! I only show two in the photo but I bought three matching.

Now that I had the base and globes i could determine how long to make the wood. I cut it at 22" and then needed to make holes in it to hold the globes. This was the most difficult part of the project. I didn't want the holes to go completely through the wood. I made a trip to Home Depot and the clerk recommended a tool that was much more than I wanted to pay. Since I didn't plan to use the tool for anything else, I didn't want to spend the money. So I improvised. I used my Dremels and drill, going back and forth between different attachments. It took a while but I achieved my goal.

I painted the 2"x4" a turquoise color and inserted the globes. The holes were far from perfect but will be hidden by the decorations that would be added.

I began layering in the decorations, which consisted of greens, mesh and flowers I already had, plus a few Valentines items from Dollar Tree.

And here you have it! I did not permanently attach anything to the base or globes so I can reuse them all year round, changing out the decorations as needed for another holiday. A very economical project!

I used red tea candles for this picture but I later put in faux candles and lit it up. Very pretty!
